Taking a Mental Break: How to Get Back in the Action Refreshed

In today’s day and age where technology is prominent, mental health is important. Forward-thinking companies are now promoting self-care, as they provide leadership that is supportive and provide you with resources to help with your well-being. Here are some ways to get back in the action feeling refreshed.

Pause and Take a Breather

It is important that you take breaks in academics or work, because if you decide to cram it all in one sitting you are setting yourself up for burnout. Step away for a minute, do some stretching, or take a short walk around your new neighborhood at River Opus. Do something else other than the activity you need to finish to feel refreshed and motivated to get back to it.

Take Care of Yourself

Chronic strain is also a risk if you neglect your health. Make sure that you are drinking enough water, eating meals at the right time of the day and getting enough sleep. This helps your body be healthy physically and helps rest your brain to prevent fatigue.

Adopt a Technique

There are many techniques for different workloads and your style of working or studying. For example the Pomodoro Method, a method that cuts down your work into bite size portions taking 15-25 minutes per session while providing you with a short break after reaching that 25 minute timer. After 4 cycles have been completed you can increase the timer for your break.

Know When to Take a Step Back

When things escalate to a point where it’s overwhelming for you, it’s ok to get some air and step outside. This prevents stress from taking a toll and serves as a reset for you to calm down and clear your mind. That small break can be used to drink a cup of water or just reflect on what you need to do, which in turn can make you more productive.
