Rice is a global staple in over 100 countries, but it is particularly popular in many parts of Asia as well as various places in Africa and South America. It is a versatile, sustainable, and easy-to-prepare meal filled with carbohydrates, providing an efficient fuel source for both mind and body. Ever wondered how you can cook rice for the first time, or get it nicely fluffed and delicious? The key is achieving a balance between preparation and the right amount of heat. Today, you’ll learn how to with little help from anyone and in your Clovelle of Woodlands home!
Directions:
Rinse the Rice
- Place 1 cup of white rice in the inner pot of a bowl or the rice cooker. Pour in cold water and swirl it around with your hand.
- Tilt the bowl or pot and pour off the murky water through your fingers. Repeat this process 2 to 3 times until the water is clear, and drain it well.
Cook the Rice
- Add some water to the rinsed rice using the ratio for your preferred rice type (white rice), or use the traditional method by pouring water until it reaches the first line of your finger.
- Close the lid and press the white rice setting on the rice cooker. A typical cooker takes 50 to 55 minutes, while a basic off/on cooker takes about 20 to 25 minutes. Let this cooking cycle finish on its own.
Fluff and Rest
- When the cooker finishes or the stovetop has rested, open the lid. The grains must look separate, and the top should be relatively dry.
- Slice a rice paddle down to the side of the pot. Lift gently from the bottom of the pot and turn the rice over to fluff it. Transfer to a serving bowl and serve while it’s still hot. Add a viand or two and enjoy!
